Deep roots in Colorado…her grandparents owned and farmed the land that became Lowry Air Force base.

Judy’s mother was a high school English teacher, her father was a Physical Education, Health, and Industrial Arts (wood shop) teacher, and a high school basketball coach who was inducted into the Kansas Basketball Hall of Fame.  They raised four children…Joe, Judy, Jeanne, John on teacher salaries.   Judy graduated from Kansas State Teachers College with a Bachelor of Science degree in Education.

She earned a Master’s degree from University of Colorado at Denver in Education and taught fifth and sixth graders at Erie Elementary for 29 years.

She’s been happily married to husband, Manuel, for 40 years.  They have two children and two stepsons as well as five grandchildren and one great-grandson.

Their son, Lucas, served four years with the 82nd Airborne Division of the US Army in Afghanistan. Their daughter, Jennifer, bilingual in Spanish, taught English at the University in Cuzco, Peru.
